The new Administration may be gearing up to take office, but the current team is still on the job, including Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack. He has been watching this week’s events on the Hill and says he is disappointed, saying the back and forth only adds to the industry’s uncertainty.
“Right now, there is nothing but uncertainty, and we will see what happens if the Farm Bill is not extended. Here’s a challenge: it starts with dairy. The dairy program basically gets impacted immediately, and if they go on for an extended period of time without a Farm Bill, we go back to permanent law, which is parity, and it’s very hard to explain what a Department of Agriculture would have to do to implement that. But I will tell you this, if people are concerned about grocery prices today, they will really be concerned about it if we get back into a parity situation.”
