A young preschool teacher was fatally run over by two cars and five students were injured in the freak accident after a school holiday concert.
Alexia Rosales, 22, was struck by two vehicles and pinned under one of them as children were being picked up from Excelled Montessori Plus in Texas on Thursday afternoon, reported News 4 San Antonio.
‘We’re heartbroken,’ stated a GoFundMe page set up by the school that employed her.
‘Losing Alexia feels like losing a part of ourselves. Her warmth, kindness, and energy will always stay with us, but the void she leaves behind is immense.’
A mother picking up her kids after the holiday event accelerated without knowing or intending to and struck another car, pushing both vehicles onto a fence where Rosales and children were playing, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said the accident is not believed to have been criminal in nature.
The school closed on Friday, but grief counselors were available for staff and families.
‘Alexia wasn’t just a teacher—she was a bright light in all our lives,’ stated Excelled Montessori Plus on Facebook on Friday.
‘Her smile, laughter, and boundless love for the children and everyone around her made our school feel like a second home.’
The GoFundMe page had raised more than $20,400 as of Friday evening.
